“Living in Pain and Fear Kept Me From the Dentist”
Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars that typically emerge in the late teens or early twenties, and they often don’t have enough room to come in properly.
When wisdom teeth become impacted, trapped under the gums, or push against other teeth, they can cause significant jaw pain, swelling, headaches, and difficulty opening your mouth. Impacted teeth also create hard-to-clean spaces that raise the risk of infection, cysts, gum disease, and damage to nearby molars. Left untreated, these issues can worsen quickly, turning a manageable problem into an urgent one.
During your consultation, Dr. Namiranian uses digital X-rays to assess the complexity of your wisdom tooth impaction. Whether your wisdom tooth has partially erupted or is fully covered by bone, our team will take the time to evaluate your oral health and create a seamless treatment plan. Dr. Namiranian will discuss IV sedation and what to expect during and after wisdom tooth extraction in Mission Viejo, CA, as well as address any questions or concerns you may have.
At MOSAIC, we combine safe IV sedation with advanced techniques to remove problematic teeth as efficiently and painlessly as possible. To perform a routine extraction, Dr. Namiranian gently moves the tooth back and forth to loosen the roots, then carefully lifts it from the socket.
If you have an impacted tooth, the gum tissue is opened, and any bone covering the tooth is removed. In many cases, it is less traumatic on the mouth to remove an impacted wisdom tooth in smaller sections rather than in its entirety.
We recommend leaving the gauze in place for about 30 minutes after surgery and replacing it with clean gauze, if necessary. Following our postprocedural instructions is essential for managing bleeding, swelling, and any discomfort.
For a day or two post-surgery, you should only consume soft foods and liquids that require minimal chewing, and avoid chewing near the extraction site(s). Applying an ice pack to your cheek for 20 minutes at a time, several times a day for the first 36 hours, can help reduce swelling.
By combining the latest technology with a compassionate approach, we strive to deliver precise wisdom tooth extractions in Mission Viejo, CA, resulting in minimal discomfort and a swift recovery.
Dr. Namiranian has vast expertise in performing safe wisdom tooth removals at our oral surgical office. Our team is dedicated to making your procedure as smooth and stress-free as possible, with personalized care from start to finish!
Wisdom teeth are typically removed between the ages of 13 and 21 when the roots aren’t fully formed. While this makes extraction easier and recovery quicker, the optimal time to remove them varies from person to person.
Recovery typically takes 3–5 days, but complete healing can take several weeks, depending on the complexity of your extraction.
Wisdom teeth are often removed if they are impacted and/or causing pain, infection, or damage to neighboring teeth. If they are not removed, they can cause complications in the future.
Dr. Namiranian provides IV sedation for all wisdom teeth extractions, as a result patients are totally comfortable during the procedure. Mild discomfort or swelling, which is common after wisdom tooth removal, can be managed with pain medications.
In many cases, dissolvable stitches are used that will naturally dissolve within a week or two. If non-dissolving stitches are used, they will be removed during your follow-up visit.
